Hello, and welcome to Perspective. I’m Dan, a qualified optometrist with over 25 years of experience, and the founder of Solihull’s favourite first class opticians.
Since opening our doors in February 2005 our mission has always been to help make people’s lives look better. Our recipe is simple, give people the best eye examinations, the finest quality frames and the clearest lenses to see through. Genuine customer care from our friendly expert team is the icing on the cake.
We are the antidote to the usual high street conveyor belt opticians. I strongly believe you should never have to comprise on the quality of your eyecare, and should always have glasses you are proud of….and enjoy to wear.
We always try our hardest to make sure that a visit to Perspective is the highlight of your day. Life is too short for bad or boring glasses, we want people to stop and ask “Where did you get your amazing specs?”
My mum is the main influence, for several reasons. Unfortunately she developed a cancer in her left eye aged only 18. Amazingly a gifted surgeon managed to save her eye, but she continues to have complex issues to this day. Understandably, from a young age my sister Emily and I had very regular visits to Mr Kelcher, our local optician in Cannock.
My eyesight was always fine, however I remember the horrendous pink NHS frames with chunky lenses Emily had to suffer. Being a nice big brother I make sure she now has cool specs and looks amazing.
As I enjoyed my science lessons, but was always in trouble for talking, Mum suggested an opticians would be a good idea for my school work experience. At only 14, after two fun weeks at Cannock SpecSavers, I knew what I wanted to do!
Graduating from Cardiff University in 1998 with my optometry degree was the next big step. A return home for my pre-registration year was a good move, passing all 10 professional exams in 1999…I was now an Optometrist.
I then worked as a locum optometrist in a variety of high street chain opticians and established independent practices. I quickly gained a lot of real life experience, and saw first hand how a practice should, and shouldn’t be run.
I discovered it was hard to be an excellent optician when you worked for one of the big boys, who often only see their clients as numbers. But equally the dated and stuffy environment of the average independent was very unappealing.
I decided there must be a better way, so with a good dose of youthful enthusiasm, I took the plunge and opened Perspective in February 2005.

Perspective’s fantastic dispensing team combine their infectious passion for eyewear with the latest technical skills and knowledge. Our style of customer service continues to produce the happiest spectacle wearers around.
Optometrist & Owner – The other talented half of the family optometry team at Perspective. Sam graduated in 2000 after studying at Aston University, meeting Dan at the first practice she joined. Sons Bert & Fred would tell you…Mum’s the Real Boss around here.
Senior Dispensing Optician – With over 30 years working in optics John is our resident dispensing master. Like his favourite passion, his knowledge and skill are premier league….just watch out for his terrible jokes!
Dispensing Optician – Bringing a fresh injection of style with a smile to our team. Harriet is our social media wizard and literally potty about fabulous specs.
Dispensing Optician – As well as being a rather excellent dispensing optician, Sunny is also a Martial Arts Master……get ready for some Knock Out specs.
Dispensing Optician – As no stranger to the limelight, Ben has an eye for a dramatic frame. He is always keen to make sure your vision is the star of the show.
Dispensing Optician – Sital brings a wealth of experience to the team, her career in optics starting as the Saturday girl at her local opticians. Her super organisational skills come in very handy, now she has two young daughters to contend with as well.
Optical Styling Consultant – Our eyewear curator and the queen of styling consultations. The lady to see if you want to look amazing and fall back in love with your eyewear.
Dispensing Optician – A superstar of optics with over 25 years of experience, her passion for stylish eyewear and the best lens technology is legendary. She just loves helping people enjoy their specs.
Reception & Client Relations – Our awesome front of house who keeps us all organised and informed. Sally always goes above and beyond to help accommodate our client’s needs and keeps the refreshments flowing nicely.
Optometrist – Qualifying in 1999 after studying at Aston University, Sarah brings a lot of experience to the practice. Her extensive work at the Birmingham & Midland Eye Casualty makes her a great asset to the Perspective team.
Optometrist – Claire worked along side Sam for many years before joining the Perspective team. Claire also has extensive hospital experience and great links with ophthalmology. She is also our go-to expert for food and travel advice.
